How to save when booking a package holiday 💸

Saving money when booking your holiday is a must, and we have put together a pirate guide on how to save, specifically when booking a package holiday.

It will sometimes be cheaper to book a DIY holiday, by finding cheap flights and teaming them with your preferred accommodation. But, this is a lot more hassle, and you don't get the protection you get when booking with an ABTA or ATOL-protected company.

Book early

The early bird gets the worm, as the saying goes. If you book your holiday when the dates are newly released, you can often get yourself a great bargain.

We noticed this year, when TUI released their 2025 holidays, they were even cheaper than the 2024 holidays already on sale. 🙌

Book late

Contradicting what we just said, but leaving it until the very last minute, is also a good way to grab yourself a bargain. Travel agents don't want flights and hotels to have availability left, so will slash the prices to get people to book.

We've seen last-minute availability with as much as a 75% saving. 🤯

Pick your perfect board basis

Depending on the type of holiday you are going on, a different board basis may work out better value for money.

All-inclusive is great, if you're going to be in your hotel most of the time, then having unlimited food and drinks can save you a lot. 🥂 But, if you're planning on being out of the hotel a lot, paying for this board basis might not be worth it.

The same goes for if you will be eating out for your evening meals, half board won't be the best option to pay for.

Booking a holiday on a self-catering basis can save you a lot if you plan on cooking in your apartment or hotel room. 🍳

Shop around

Prices can differ massively between travel agents, so it is always best to compare as many as you can.

TUI, easyJet Holidays and Jet2 have their own airlines, whereas companies like LoveHolidays pull in all different airlines. This can affect the price of the holiday a great deal, as you can pick to fly with a low-cost airline or go with a more expensive option.

Or, come to HolidayPirates, and check out the great deals we have found for you. 😉

Don't pay for what you don't need

There are a few different types of holiday packages. Some include just flights and accommodation, but many include lots of extras you might not even need.

A big luggage allocation, and transfers are the most common things that are added, that may not be needed. You may like to travel light, or be hiring a car, in which case these extras are not needed. In this case, you may save money by booking a package that doesn't have these extras included.

Other extras can include paying for your seat, upgrading your room, or picking a different board basis. Make sure you're not paying for something you don't really need. 👀

Travel off-peak

Heading on a beach holiday in summer, when the weather is at its hottest, can be super pricy. But, there are many pluses to travelling in off-peak dates, such as in shoulder season.

April to June, along with September and October, can be great times to head off on a European beach getaway, whilst saving you lots of money. The weather can still be good, and the crowds possible less crowded. ☀️🏝️

Stay longer

Longer stays are many times better value for money, when worked out as a per night price.

We often see longer stays CHEAPER than shorter amounts, which is great if you're on an all-inclusive basis, or not going to go mad with spending money.💰

Discount codes

Look out for discount codes that can save you a good chunk off your holiday. Places like TUI and easyJet Holidays often have codes on offer.

Sign up to their emailing lists to be notified when codes are released, or check out their websites before you book. 💳
