In 2023, we saw major airports in the UK scrap the 100ml liquids rules as new CT (Computed Tomography) scanners were rolled out. However, the changes were quickly reverted after just a few weeks, leaving passengers frustrated.
However, there has recently been new changes at nine major UK airports as they become fully equipped with the new CT scanners, allowing passengers to leave electrical items and liquids in their bags when passing through security.
Previously, passengers had to take out their laptops, phones and other electrical items, which could cause delays and queues at peak times. Travellers also had to remove liquids and place them in a clear plastic bag.
However, the 100ml liquid limit rule still remains in place, for now.
Currently, nine UK airports are fully equipped with new scanners (listed below). With more airports expected to be complete by June 2025.
