The Baltics are already well worth a visit, but now it’s getting even easier! Thanks to a new rail connection, you’ll be able to travel between Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius much more smoothly from this year.
We’ve got all the info you need if you're thinking about exploring this underrated corner of Europe.
The national rail companies of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have teamed up to make it super easy to travel between their capitals: Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, all in a single day. Until now, getting around often meant long bus journeys, since train routes were awkward and full of time-consuming changes.
The new train connection runs daily and takes around ten hours from Tallinn to Vilnius (or the other way round). Second-class tickets start at just €39 and can be booked via the Lithuanian rail operator, LTG Link. Shorter legs are cheaper, Vilnius to Riga is €24, and Riga to Tallinn comes in at around €30.
If you’re travelling with an Interrail or Eurail pass, you can hop on for free, just make sure to reserve your seat in advance.

If you’re starting from Vilnius, the train leaves at 7:05am and gets you to Riga by 11:04am. From there, you'll change trains at Valga, just on the Estonian border, and arrive in Tallinn at 5:34pm.
Travelling the other way? Depart from Tallinn at 10:25am and you’ll reach Vilnius by 9:03pm.
Pets and bikes are welcome too, you’ll just need to pay a little extra to bring them along.
