If you are planning a trip to Cape Town, you'll know that it's home to some of the best quality food out there. And what is better for tasting the local delights than a visit to a food market? There you can expect local delicacies such as koeksisters and fresh oysters as well as international street food. The Mother City has some of the most beautiful food markets in the world, so keep reading to find out which you should go to.
This is an offshoot from Johannesburg. In Cape Town, the market always takes place on weekends on the grounds of the Old Biscuit Mill in the Woodstock district. There are stalls selling fresh food - from Cape Malay cuisine to paella, good drinks and, if the weather is good, live music outside. Clothes and accessories, some of which are handmade, are also sold on site.

A farmers' market in the middle of the city? Yes! The Oranjezicht City Farm Market takes place every Saturday and Sunday, and on Wednesday evenings in the summer months, near the waterfront. It mainly sells fresh products, including fruit and vegetables, baked goods, honey, eggs and dairy products. But there are also handicrafts, clothing and food stalls, so you can eat on site - from very good Pastéis de Nata at Vadas Bakery to natural wines.

This is less of a typical market and more of a food hall. The Mojo Market is located in Sea Point (not too far from one of my favourite breakfast spots: JARRYDS Brunch & Bistro) and is open every day. There are around 30 food stalls, so everyone should be able to find something they like. There are also various bars, including a whiskey and a tequila bar. Thanks to the many TVs, various sporting events are also broadcast and there is live music every day, with the opportunity to sing karaoke.

In the fishing village of Hout Bay, just south of Cape Town, you can go to The Bay Harbour Market every Friday and Saturday. Handmade clothing, jewellery and art are sold in the hall and there is street food on offer too. Feast your way through the market and enjoy sweet desserts and cakes, try biltong (dried meat), sip on craft beer or eat fresh seafood. You will usually be accompanied by live music - an added bonus.

This market is technically not in Cape Town, but I still didn't want to keep it from you. The Wild Oats Community Farmers' Market takes place every Saturday, not far from Sedgefield (a town on the Garden Route). Numerous local products such as flowers, fruit and vegetables are sold there, but there are also a few stalls where you can get fresh food such as hearty pies or cakes.
