The most beautiful places on the Côte d'Azur

Are you drawn to the beautiful French Riviera? Then this list of the most beautiful places on the Côte d'Azur will be right up your street! After living in Nice for a semester a few years ago, here are my top things to do along this area of the French coastline.

Nice

Of course, Nice cannot be left out of this list. After all, most of you will immediately think of Nice when you think of the Côte d'Azur, and rightly so! The cultural capital of the area is a very special mix of vibrant city, Mediterranean serenity and the beautiful beaches that the Côte d'Azur is famous for worldwide. Spend the day on the beach, stroll along the promenade and in the evening lose yourself in the many narrow streets of the old town, visiting local bars and pubs as you go.

Tip: Nice is the most well-connected airport on the Côte d'Azur, so will be the gate way to the French Riviera for many of you travelling into and out of the UK.

Saint-Tropez

Another obvious entry... There's a reason that this picturesque coastal town has become a hotspot for the rich and beautiful. Saint-Tropez was once just a tranquil fishing village, like many you can still find along the coast. Until it became famous through visits by none other than famous French actress, Brigitte Bardot, and other celebrities and jetsetters in the 1950s. Today it represents pure glamour, boasting a world-famous marina but maintaining some of its old charm.

Saint Paul de Vence

The medieval village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, located on a hill, was one of my absolute highlights! The location, the view, the houses - an absolute dream! But it doesn't stop there - you can spend the whole day walking up and down the hilly, medieval streets and admiring all the local art and even buying some pieces yourself. This town is also full of cafes, so you can easily get your fill of coffee and pastries. Don't miss this place!

Villefranche-sur-Mer

I can also highly recommend the beautiful coastal village of Villefranche-sur-Mer! Stroll through the narrow streets, past the pastel-coloured houses to the harbor, where you can admire sailing boats and yachts. There is even a beach where you can sunbathe on the Mediterranean coast. Simply fantastic for a day trip!

Menton

I had a very special time in Menton because I was there for the Fête du Citron. This always takes place in mid-February - if you can visit the city at this time, you definitely should, as it is a really unique experience! But no matter what time of year, you should definitely pay a visit to the colourful city of Menton, also known as the "Pearl of France". It is right on the Italian border and combines the best of both countries. The beaches are also perfect for relaxing and swimming!
