Finnair has confirmed that they will be inviting passengers to voluntarily agree to be weighed with their luggage to help the airline estimate the weight of planes’ cargo before takeoff.
While some may find the move controversial, the airline confirmed that more than 600 passengers had already agreed to the move.
The weight of the passenger and their hand luggage is recorded together, with the results being sent to the Finnish transport and communications agency, Traficom, and used for aircraft balance and loading calculations for the future.
The airline insists the data is purely for safety purposes and not linked in any way to personal data.
