🇨🇲 Cameroon

Let's start with the African continent, pirates. Because Cameroon tops the list, and it's no surprise. This country celebrates the 65th anniversary of its independence in 2025, bringing much-deserved and long-awaited attention to this extraordinary African country.

Discover the cities of Douala and Yaoundé to the rhythm of an electric soundtrack influenced by the rumbas of Central Africa. And when you need a break, feel like you're on a deserted island on the pristine beaches of Kribi.

Here's what you can't miss:

  1. Enjoy Kribi with its palm trees, white sand beaches, waterfalls, and fishing villages.

  2. Visit the capital, Yaoundé, to discover an explosion of African art and culture.

  3. Enjoy the fauna and flora, going in search of mandrills, gorillas and elephants in the Campo-Ma'an National Park.

🇱🇦 Laos

We continue across to Asia and land in Laos. This country has recently opened an international high-speed rail system, connecting its tranquil mountainous plains with the bustling Yunnan province in southwest China.

Thanks to this train, it's easier than ever to explore the many cultural and natural wonders of this peaceful country, as well as its ancient cities. A corner of Southeast Asia less frequented by tourists, it could be your ideal destination if you're looking to escape the more popular destinations.

You can't miss:

  1. Practice whatever sport appeals to you in the Vang Vieng Mountains, where you can go biking, hiking, climbing, or ziplining.

  2. Visit Pha That Luang temple in Vientiane and Patuxai, the monument inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

  3. Stop by Luang Prabang for a day trip to Kuang Si Waterfall and watch the sunset from the top of Mount Phousi.

🇰🇿 Kazakhstan

We continue with Kazakhstan, the ninth largest country in the world. As it's the largest landlocked country in the world, it's not recommended for beach lovers, but it has plenty of other stunning nature to discover.

It's an ideal destination for travellers seeking adventure in an unexplored place, full of beauty, nature, history, and culture. If hiking is your thing, you can't miss the numerous trails in Sairam-Ugam National Park. If you're looking to sample its cuisine, don't miss the southern city of Shymkent. And if you want to learn more about its history, we recommend visiting Almaty, the former capital, where you can discover the country's Soviet legacy.

Note these highlights:

  1. Don't miss Charyn Canyon, known as the "Grand Canyon of Central Asia," a natural wonder with jaw-dropping rock formations.

  2. Have you ever seen a sunken forest? Because here, you can. At Lake Kaindy, tree trunks jut out of the crystal-clear water. It's located in the Tian Shan Mountains, near Almaty.

  3. Visit the singing sand dunes in Altyn-Emel National Park, where you'll hear a sound similar to that of an organ when the wind blows.

🇱🇹 Lithuania

Moving on to Europe, our first stop is Lithuania. Named the "Green Capital of Europe 2025," there's no better time to explore its protected forests, lakes, and sand dunes along the Baltic Sea.

In Vilnius, the capital, green spaces cover 61% of the city's surface. It also boasts unmissable monuments like the recently restored Sapieha Palace. In fact, the city's Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts cobblestone streets and Baroque buildings that will transport you back in time.

When you visit, these are the things you can't miss:

  1. The medieval castle in Trakai, situated in the middle of a lake, is a symbol of the country's medieval past.

  2. Aukštaitija National Park, known for its mountainous landscapes, interconnected lakes and traditional villages.

  3. Its paradise of sand dunes, forests and beaches along a narrow isthmus between the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon in the Curonian Spit National Park.

🇸🇰 Slovakia

Slovakia has really ramped up its outdoor adventures opportunities, the importance of ecotourism, and there are numerous ongoing restoration projects, so now is a great time to visit.

You'll find culture and history in Bratislava, its capital, and nature in the beech forests and wildflower meadows that descend the slopes of the Carpathians, or by taking the Tatra electric railways to the top of the Tatra Mountains.

Whatever the case, these are your must-sees in the country:

  1. Its historic castles, such as Spiš Castle, one of the largest in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as Bratislava Castle and Bojnice Castle.

  2. Ski, hike, or enjoy the alpine scenery in the Tatra Mountains - a true spectacle.

  3. If you're into caving, don't miss its caves, five of which are World Heritage Sites. Note: Domica, Ochtinská Aragonite, Gombasecká, Jasovská, Krásnohorská, Dobšinská, Bystrianska, and Harmanecká.

🇦🇲 Armenia

Armenia remains relatively unknown to travellers, at least for now. Therefore, it's the perfect time to visit, before everyone else goes.

You can explore the South Caucasus with its stunning monasteries, the new Armenian National Trail, or simply enjoy a glass of Areni Noir at a vineyard.

These are the country's highlights:

  1. Its many monasteries, especially the Geghard Monastery, which is partially carved into the rock and surrounded by mountains and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

  2. Let yourself be welcomed by the Armenians, who are known for their hospitality and welcome tourists like family.

  3. Its wine and brandy. Armenia has a long winemaking tradition, among the finest in the world. Its brandy is also famous, especially that produced in Yerevan.

🇵🇾 Paraguay

Located in the heart of South America, Paraguay offers a combination of history, vibrant culture, and diverse nature, all while offering a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. It's ideal for those looking to get off the beaten path and explore new horizons.

Here you can discover everything from the thorny Chaco forest (home to jaguars and anteaters) to picturesque villages and spectacular waterfalls.

Note these experiences for your trip to Paraguay:

  1. Relax on the wonderful beaches of Encarnación. Known as the "Pearl of the South," Encarnación offers beaches along the Paraná River for enjoying sunny days.

  2. Don't miss the artisan crafts: ñandutí and Luque filigree. The former are beautiful hand-woven laces, and the latter is delicate jewelry made of gold and silver.

  3. Visit Salto Cristal, a stunning waterfall surrounded by an ideal setting for swimming and relaxing.

🇹🇹 Trinidad & Tobago

Of course, a Caribbean country (a pirate country 🏴‍☠️) couldn't be missed. Lonely Planet landed on this two-island nation, whose culinary scene is a true explosion of flavours, influenced by African, Asian, French, Spanish, English, Dutch, Chinese, and indigenous cuisine.

One of Trinidad and Tobago's most famous attractions is its Carnival. Considered one of the best carnivals in the world, this celebration includes parades of extravagant costumes, soca and calypso music, and, above all, unparalleled energy. The celebrations last for several weeks, with costume parades on 3 and 4 March, 2025.

Here's what you can't miss:

  1. The Asa Wright Nature Reserve: a paradise for bird lovers, hikers, and sea turtle watchers.

  2. Of course, its Caribbean beaches, among which stand out: Maracas Bay and Playa de las Cuevas (Trinidad) and Pigeon Point and Store Bay (Tobago).

  3. Discover the Hindu Sea Temple. A temple built above the sea due to the ban imposed by local authorities on the construction of Hindu temples on Trinidadian lands.

🇫🇯 Fiji

And now, the destinations for beach lovers are here, pirates. Because we're heading to Fiji, an archipelago made up of 330 islands surrounded by turquoise waters.

How would you feel if I told you it has 460 marine protected areas - impressive, right? Protecting this ecosystem has become the main objective of a new initiative, which promotes preservation through activities such as coral and mangrove planting.

When you visit this paradise, don't miss the following:

  1. Snorkel or scuba dive in marine protected areas to enjoy the spectacle and understand why it's so important to protect this space.

  2. Of course, its crystal-clear beaches. We specifically recommend the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, the Blue Lagoon, and Natadola Beach.

  3. Fiji is also known for its waves, which are ideal for experienced surfers, of course.

🇻🇺 Vanuatu

We end the list with this paradise. With fewer than 45,000 tourists a year, Vanuatu is a virtually untouched island retreat. A place covered in jungle, surrounded by deserted beaches, dotted with volcanoes, and crisscrossed with picturesque trails.

Although, without a doubt, one of the main reasons to visit this country is to experience and learn about the rich heritage of its inhabitants, the Ni-Vanuatu. They are warm, welcoming, and proud to share their culture and traditions.

These are the must-sees in Vanuatu:

  1. Visit Mount Yasur on Tanna Island, one of the most accessible active volcanoes in the world. You can hike to the crater rim to witness spectacular eruptions at sunset.

  2. Dive into its waters and explore coral reefs, underwater caves, and shipwrecks, such as the famous SS President Coolidge, one of the largest shipwrecks accessible to divers.

  3. Try their ceremonial drink, Kava. A drink that's nothing like the cava we know, but is made from kava roots and is known for its relaxing effects.
