Located in Cairo, the museum started construction in 2005 and has been a long time coming. But we can now finally say that it will be opening.

When? Officials are keeping their lips tightly sealed on exact dates for now, but since they are now letting members of the public in for closed-door visits (including one of our own pirates!), it's safe to assume that it will indeed be opening soon.

But what's all the fuss about? Overall, the Grand Egyptian Museum will present over 100,000 artefacts. Some of which are considered humanity's greatest acheivements, like the first piece of paper or the first 365-day calendar - there is plenty to gawp at.

Spanning 484,000 square feet of floor space, the billion-dollar museum features 12 exhibition halls. Inside, the museum’s atrium is guarded by a 36-foot-tall, 3,200-year-old statue of the Egyptian Pharaoh Rameses II. Truly something you need to see with your own eyes.

Want to know more? We've made a super informative Titkok on the museum, which includes EXCLUSIVE footage gathered by our very own Pirate.
