Crystal-clear water, palm trees, bungalows, bright sunshine mingling with the smell of sunscreen: are we in the Maldives? Almost. We're on the island of Crete, more specifically at the Stella Island Resort, an adults-only hotel with 225 rooms.
We've found dates from just £233 per night (£116.50pp), which is less than half the price of many other dates.
The wonderful bungalows that stand on the water are not suspended over the Indian Ocean, however the structure is in fact built around (and above) a luxury swimming pool.
The bungalows are furnished in a modern style, featuring natural fabrics and textures, and feature large windows overlooking the water. Each bungalow has a whirlpool tub with a waterfall shower and a charming deck with a hammock for sunbathing and enjoying the breathtaking view.
Like any self-respecting Maldives resort, Stella Island also features a walkway that runs through the center of the "island." This luxurious five-star resort also features a lounge area in the middle of the water, perfect for when you want to be surrounded by crystal-clear water but still stay dry. If you prefer to sip your aperitif while relaxing in the water, you can enjoy one of the swim-up bars.
