The mystical AZULIK Uh May is nestled in the heart of the Mayan jungle, 30 minutes from the tropical coast of Tulum. It is an awe-inspiring architectural feat consisting of several shell-shaped buildings with elevated spiral-walkways and trees shooting from the floor through the ceiling.

The extraterrestrial construction almost resembles something out of The Little Mermaid (well, if Atlantica was above water, that is) and at the same time conjures up images of woodland fairies.
The brainchild of famous hotelier Roth, the AZULIK Uh May is a holistic centre; it is part art school, part art gallery and part eco research lab. (Collaborator being none other than Santiago Rumney Guggenheim, grandson of legendary gallerist Peggy Guggenheim.)
It is an extension of Roth's 5-star tribal eco-resort AZULIK in Tulum, which is a digital detox sanctuary just for grown-ups.
There's also a house of ancestral medicine dedicated to shamanic healing, yoga and sound meditation.
The resort consists of intricate, nest-like treehouse villas oozing barefoot gypset vibes right on the oceanfront. There is no electric light (just candles), no A/C or television, with mother nature as the main amenity!
The treehouses have a unique Mayan mosaic bath tub where you can have a special invigorating bath in sacred cenote water.
Make no mistake – this is no ordinary beach-shack, but a magical place to recharge your batteries and reconnect with nature. It is the perfect place to retreat to, as soon as restrictions are lifted!
On-site there's also a Japanese-Mexican fusion restaurant serving up haute cuisine.
What does this bucket-list accomodation cost? A night in this resort doesn't come cheap. Villas start from between £500-£700 per night and go up to £6,000+ per night. With prices like these, it is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime type booking. We will be adding it to our bucket list!
