In January (which should have decent snow and chances to catch to Northern Lights), you can fly to Helsinki for £64 return... now, here's the fun part.
You can take an overnight train from Helsinki to Lapland, Finland, where Santa's home is. The train route is referred to as the Santa Claus Express and is a double-decker train that offers sleeper cabins for overnight stays. We've priced up a return trip from 59 Eur (around £51).
Hotels in Lapland are also expensive in January, so by taking the sleeper train, you can wake up there and depart the same evening. Hotels in Helsinki are much cheaper, and we've found one from £55 for the first night of the trip.
