Take advantage of this travel hack & do NO tests on holiday
British holidaymakers are able to enjoy a weekend away in Portugal, or any Green List country for that matter, with no Covid testing when abroad.
To do this, travellers need to take a private Covid test (not an nhs one) in the UK before flying off to their destination. Most countries require a negative test result for entry anyway so it's no extra cost.
They can then use the same negative result at British passport control when they return to the UK as long as it is within 72 hours meaning no need to take a test while away.
This could save passengers money but also the effort of finding somewhere to do a test.
So you could do a test on Thursday, fly to Portugal on Friday and as long as you fly home before or on Sunday, your test will still be valid for re-entry to the UK.
From the gov.uk website:
"If you are returning to the UK within 3 days, you can use the result of a COVID-19 test that you take in the UK before you travel. You must use a private test provider for the test and not an NHS test."
Travellers would still need to do a PCR test on day 2 of returning to the UK.
