Have you heard of Menton? This picturesque town is situated in the South of France and almost feels like you could be in Italy. It's only a 36-minute train ride from Nice, but with fewer crowds.

We've put together a bargain DIY break from £166, which includes flights into Nice. You'll spend five nights at an well-rated hotel near the beach, and the nightly rate is much cheaper than nearby hotels.

You'll just need to sort your train. Alternatively, you could use the flights into Nice and explore more of the Côte d'Azur, with stops in multiple places.
