How to find free and affordable things to do

Firstly, you're already in the right place, as you'll find all our own destination guides below, highlighting some of the best and free things to do in popular travel destinations.

If there's a destination we haven't covered (yet), there are some common free things to do you can keep an eye out for when you're planning your next holiday.

  • Free walking tours: most cities around the world will offer free walking tours, usually around key landmarks/sightseeing neighbourhoods. Tips are appreciated but not mandatory.

  • Free museum/gallery entry: While some museums are free all year round, others offer free admission on a particular day(s) during the month. Check whether you can take advantage of this during your holiday.

  • Get some fresh air: Most parks/nature reserves are free to visit - this is especially great if you're after an active holiday.

  • Visit a market: Most food/farmers' markets have free entry, allowing you to peruse the stalls without any pressure to buy.

  • Look for free events: Use social media or pop into a tourist information office to find out if there are any free events on the go. If it's summer, chances are you might be able to check out a free festival or even some free live music.
