Where to holiday for less this summer
Ahoy Pirates! We know there was a lot of excitement last Friday as we waited patiently to find out which countries made the green list.
While we did see prices rise to many of our favourite destinations after the announcement, we are here to say that all is not lost! You can still get a bargain on your summer holidays.
What's the secret? While everyone rushes to book trips to the newly-announced green-list destinations, the best deals are to be had by booking holidays to countries on the amber list. Read on to learn more!
Let's first start by outlining exactly what you have to do if returning from an amber-coloured country. Before traveling back to the UK you must take a pre-departure test and complete a passenger locator form (found here). Once you are back home, you are required to isolate for 10 days and get tested on days two and eight. However, you may be able to get out of quarantine early (on your 5th day) if you pay for a private test through the government's ‘Test to Release’ scheme.
So without further ado, we bring you a list of the top countries currently on the amber list with the best summer deals.
Malta already announced that from June they would admit British tourists who are either fully-vaccinated or who can provide a negative test.
While Malta is currently on the amber-list, over 50% of their population have already been given the 1st jab, putting them just behind the UK. We are crossing our fingers that they will make the green list by summer, but either way there a lot of great possibilities for a sunny island holiday on Malta.
You can find our latest deals to Malta HERE or check out one of our personal favourites, where you can spend three nights at the 3* Solana Hotel and Spa from £191* per person (which includes flights) this July!
We know you love a summer getaway to beautiful Greece. And lucky for everyone there are still plenty of deals available to our favourite destinations in Greece. Some of our go-to destinations include Zante, Halkidiki, Mykonos, and Crete. Check out our current deals to these beautiful seaside escapes HERE.
If you need a little inspiration, we are personally in love with this gorgeous boutique hotel in Crete that has plenty of availability until September from £63* per person.
We had really hoped to see Spain on the green list, but for now we are happy to still be able to bag some pretty awesome holiday deals to Spain this summer. The good news is that we know from Spain’s tourism minister that Spain plans to welcome brits back in June.
Our top choice for a summer holiday would be the Canary Islands or a trip to the Balearics. Discover what deals we currently have on offer HERE or click the buttons below to find your own perfect Spanish holiday!
France is perfect for those looking for a cheap city break. Cities like Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Montpellier and Strasbourg make for great getaways. And while France is currently in lockdown, their borders are open to Brits who can provide a negative Covid test. Due to the current restrictions in place, you can find some pretty good deals. France is confident they will be ready for tourism this summer, but we suggest booking with flexible options or free cancellation just in case.
Paris is our favourite destination when it comes to city breaks in France. Why not enjoy a short weekend away to Paris this summer? We've found a great deal from £208 per person that includes flights and 2 nights in an award-winning hotel near the Eiffel Tower.
Croatia makes for a beautiful summer holiday destination. And lucky for us, Croatia is open to Brits this summer who have either been vaccinated or can provide a negative Covid test. We suggest heading to pretty much anywhere along the Dalmatian coast, which includes Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar, as well as the beautiful islands like Hvar, Korcula and Vis.
While you can easily spend a week in Croatia, we suggest going for 10 days max. Book a package holiday that includes flights and hotel, or make your own way.
Cyprus is a great budget destination for summer 2021. And the country will start welcoming Brits (quarantine free) from 10th May who can provide a negative Covid test.
There are some great packaged holiday deals to be found! Like this one: spend 9 nights at the 4* Club Coral Resort with flights from £331* per person.
Italy is normally on the top of our list of destinations to jet off to for a short haul holiday. Sadly, it didn't make the green-list. That's okay, because Italy is hoping to welcome tourists back quarantine-free starting mid May.
You will be able to find cheap hotel deals and flights on budget airlines to most of the major Italian cities and popular tourist destinations like Sicily and Puglia.
