Pirates, last autumn I did a small European tour through Italy, Switzerland and Germany. I went to some pretty amazing places, including a stay in Cinque Terre and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, but my favourite place was Switzerland's Jungfrau region.

I had the preconceived notion that Switzerland was going to be outrageously expensive. The general rule in Switzerland is: the higher you go, the more expensive it is. And while some things were ridiculously expensive, other things were actually very well priced. A beer, for example, ranged anywhere from £5 to £7 in a restaurant. Accommodation, as well, can get pricey in the region, however, cheaper options can be found in Lauterbrunnen. We stayed in a nice Airbnb, but if I were to go back, I would choose to stay in these cabins to save even more money.

We've found a 3-night stay in October from £489* total. The cabin sleeps up to 4 people, which means you could stay for as little as £41 per person, per night. That is a total bargain, pirates!

On-site, you have a store, a traditional Swiss restaurant (which was one of our favourite meals), a nearby river, close access to the waterfall in town, Staubbach Falls, and you'll be within walking distance from the train station. Plus, the price is just right! This might just be the cheapest way to stay in this region that's not a hostel.

Additional Information

How do I get to Lauterbrunnen?

Lauterbrunnen can easily be reached by train from Interlaken Ost. The ticket costs around £9 on way if you don't have any sort of discounted pass and can be purchased at the train station. The journey takes about 20 minutes.

You have the option of flying into Geneva or Zurich - maybe you also want to check out one of these cities for a night or two, before taking the train to Interlaken.

*We might be Pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. However, with deals this hot, things change quickly—flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. But mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. If you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry, we’re working on more great offers.
