If you don't want to fly too far or if you only have a long weekend to work with, a city break may just be your ideal holiday match. In June, many destinations are starting to look their best, with warmer weather and longer hours of daylight. This is certainly the case for Europe, but you can also find great city break destinations a little further away.

Here are some of our top destinations for a June city break.

1. Copenhagen, Denmark

Known for its candy-coloured houses and the bright lights of Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen is a great destination for a June city break. The Danish capital manages to effortlessly pull off its unique blend of history, hipster vibes and seaside charm.

While it may be tempting to do a few day trips from Copenhagen, make sure that you set aside enough time to explore the city itself, which is packed with so many things to do. Plus, the sun will most likely be shining - the perfect conditions for exploring!

Travel tips for Copenhagen

Don't miss out on the most popular attractions while in Copenhagen. They're popular for a reason, after all, so make time to see the Little Mermaid, Nyhavn, Tivoli Gardens and Rosenborg Castle.

But don't forget to explore this city's food scene; TorvehallerneKBH is a great place to do this, as each food stall has its own speciality. For something completely different, check out Christiania, a freetown operating in Copenhagen; just remember to read the rules at the entrance.

Poland's capital city is known as a place that's full of history, but it also happens to be one of the more affordable city breaks you can take in early summer. And, for those in the know, Warsaw is full of trendy bars, art galleries and restaurants just waiting to be discovered.

Plus, the city is filled with all sorts of attractions. And, thanks to its central location in the country, Warsaw is a great base for exploring other Polish towns and cities, such as Lodz and Lublin.

Travel tips for Warsaw

Head to the city's Old Town, which was faithfully rebuilt and restored to its former glory; the Old Town Market Square, Presidential Palace and Historical Museum of Warsaw are the top things to do here.

Lazienki Park is a stunning spot, with shaded paths and grand structures dotted amongst the trees. For those visiting Warsaw for its famous nightlife scene, you can find plenty of bars and clubs in the Pawilony area, as well as a street called Mazowieczka near the centre.

3. Athens, Greece

If you like your city breaks hot, then Athens will be your perfect fit this June. The weather is definitely getting warmer at this time of year, but it'll still be much more comfortable than the height of summer.

This means that you'll be able to fully explore the city's renowned sights, from the Acropolis to its many museums and art galleries. While many travellers head to the beaches of Greece in summer, it's also one of the best times to experience the capital.

Travel tips for Athens

Head up the Acropolis in the morning, before the heat of the day really sets in; you can marvel at the iconic Parthenon and other ancient structures at the top. Consider buying a combination ticket if you're planning to visit any other ancient sites, such as the Temple of Olympian Zeus or the Ancient Agora.

For good food and shopping, head to the Monastiraki area where you'll find a market as well as restaurants and street food stalls. The Plaka district is another top area to explore.

June is a fantastic time to see Seville's many outdoor attractions, such as the impressive Plaza de España with its bridges, columns and water features as well as the beautiful details of the Royal Alcázar of Seville. For something a bit quirkier, don't miss Setas de Sevilla, a unique mushroom-shaped wooden structure that towers over La Encarnación Square.
