Searching for sun? Hot places to go in November

November is a great time for travelling. In Europe you will benefit from lower hotel and flight prices in general as it is the shoulder season, and you can bag bargain deals to countries like Cyprus and Canary Islands with temps hovering in the mid 20ºCs.

Further afield, Mexico’s Baja California along with Orlando promise glorious weather and water temperatures during November, not to mention the Dominican Republic. Here you might endure the occasional light shower, but it usually passes as quickly as it came, (and let’s face it, with temperatures in the 30ºCs it is often a welcome break!)

November is also the best time to visit the tropical paradise destination of the Seychelles. If you are a fan of diving or snorkelling it translates into best visibility, with water temperature sometimes reaching 29ºC.

If we turn our eyes more to the East, Goa and Thailand also boast temps round the 30ºC - mark during November, as the monsoon season has passed.

We’ve picked 8 of the top destinations for a hot holiday in November!

1. Cyprus

Through the beginning and half way through the month, Cyprus is still a great go-to-destination if you are in pursuit of warm European weather. Here you can expect temperatures ranging between 22°C on the west coast and 23°C-24°C on the eastern-south coast, along with generally cloudless skies for bright and sunny days.

2. Canary Islands

Another “safe card” and a decade-old favourite winter sun destination for us Brits are the Canary Islands, topped by Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Lanzarote is also a good shout, which is much less mountainous than the previous two. High temps hover round 23°C, with lows still a pleasant 18°C, which makes activities such as hiking perfect for November here.

3. Baja California, Mexico

If you are longing for a Mexico holiday in November then Cabo San Lucas on the West Coast is your best bet, which is sunnier and less humid than Cancun on the East Coast. The average high is now 30°C with fairly low precipitation and you can expect less tourists than in the following months. Perfect weather to relax with a drink on the beach!

4. Orlando, USA

In Orlando you can look forward to highs of 25°C and glorious seawater temperatures of 26°C as the year is coming to a close. It is a good option also if you are traveling as a family as you can enjoy a less crowded city and snap up some bargain hotel deals. There are plenty of activities for young and old and a trip along the Florida coast is mesmerising.

5. Dominican Republic

Technically the last month of the hurricane season, November is still the low season and favoured by many travellers, as it is resulting in lower prices for flights and accommodation. Average temps in the Dominican Republic clock in around 27°C with highs of 30°C, which falls to a pleasant 23°C at night.

6. The Seychelles

November is one of the best months to visit the Seychelles offering calm seas, warm winds, great underwater visibility and only light tropical showers, which pass by quickly. It is also the period when the Hawksbill turtles lay eggs. Low temps are in the mid-20°Cs with highs reaching 30°C and water temperature sometimes reaching 29ºC.

7. Goa

In Goa in India you can enjoy highs of 33°C and lows of 22°C, making November one of the hottest and most popular months to visit. The temp is dry with an average of nine hours of sunshine a day and landscapes are lush and green.

8. Thailand

November is an enjoyable month to visit both Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand, as the rainy season has just passed, yet it is not (yet) smothering hot and you can expect fewer tourists. It is a great time to explore the hustle and bustle of the city, followed by retreating to a white sandy beach in the Phuket region to enjoy some gorgeous beach time. Temps range from 27°C to 30° and although you can expect a short downpour in the afternoon, it usually passes very quickly.

The best places to visit in November

Transition from autumn to winter with a getaway this November. The slightly warmer days of October have been left behind and upcoming peak season December travel to popular Christmas destinations makes November an ideal month to snag a cheap holiday.

From warm weather locales to hidden gems right here in the UK, here are our top choices for an ace November holiday.

1. Patagonia, Argentina and Chile

We may be gearing up for winter in the UK, but in Patagonia spring is giving way to summer. Patagonia is a very popular destination during peak Argentine/Chilean summer (between December and February), so visiting in November gives you a chance to enjoy sunny days and relatively warm daytime temperatures at lower prices and without the regular summer crowds.

Decide whether you want to start on Argentina or Chile’s side, and plan accordingly. If you’re going with Chile, make sure to leave ample time to explore Torres del Paine National Park, with its towering peaks and otherworldly waters. If you’re starting in Argentina, Tierra del Fuego National Park and Los Glaciares National Park are sure bets.

2. Málaga, Spain

With temperatures hovering around 20 degrees and sunny days, there’s a reason why Málaga remains popular long after the tourist season ends for holidays in Spain. Take advantage of the warm days by exploring some of this southern city’s best architecture, from the Alcazaba palace and fortress, the ruins of the Roman theatre and El Castillo de Gibralfaro. Stop in for a snack between sights at one of the city’s street markets, where you can try local specialities like espeto, skewered and roasted sardines.

If it's warm enough, head down to the San Julian beach for a stroll or travel further down the coast to resort beaches in places like Marbella. Stuck with a rainy day? There are plenty of museums—like the Museo del Vidrio or the Picasso Museum—to keep you occupied.

3. Las Vegas, USA

Las Vegas pulls out the stops all year round, but you can avoid the scorching summer days with a trip in the fall, where you can still expect mild weather (16-21 degrees) and plenty of sunshine. Wander through the booming Arts District—if you can, catch the monthly First Fridays block party—and grab a bite to eat. As night falls and temperatures drop, head indoors to catch a show, sip mixologist-approved cocktails, and try your luck at the casinos.

If you need a break from hitting the slots, take a day trip or an overnight to Death Valley (2 hour drive) or the Grand Canyon (4 hour drive). Death Valley is impossibly hot in the summer, making November an ideal time to visit, whereas with an out-of-season trip to the Grand Canyon you’ll avoid the regular crowds.

4. Lisbon, Portugal

The ultimate Portugal destination, hilly Lisbon is breathtaking in every sense of the word: you’ll get a full sensory workout as you walk up and down the streets from scenic overlooks to tiny blink-and-you’ll-miss-them restaurants.

While Lisbon is truly in the midst of fall by the time November rolls around, you can still expect a fair amount of sun and mild days in the mid-teens and low-20s. Use those warm weather hours for outdoor exploration in neighbourhoods outside the city centre—the beautiful Jardim da Estrela gardens are a great choice for a leisurely walk. As the evening cools, take your pick of local restaurants offering fine port wines and plates of some of the freshest seafood you will ever eat.

5. Bath, United Kingdom

While the beaches of the UK are not so appetising as autumn closes in, you can wade through warmer waters in Bath, one of the UK’s best autumn destinations. Bath is great for a minibreak of a couple of days, and is a particularly excellent choice for a romantic getaway. First take a walk through the old Roman Baths, where thermal waters still run naturally to this day.

Then treat yourself to a day at the Thermal Bath Spa, where you can experience Bath’s natural geothermal waters the way the Romans did. Finish up your weekend of treating yourself with a night at one of the city’s best farm-to-table restaurants. If you want to include some nature during your stay then head into the nearby Cotswolds, one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.

6. Tulum, Mexico

November is a great time of the year to visit much of Mexico. The rainy season has ended, temperatures are a much more comfortable average of 25°C while the air is much less humid. Days are typically sunny and nighttime temperatures are also nice and pleasant. Tulum is situated in the Yucatán region on the Caribbean coast. Hotels are affordable in November and Tulum's attractions - from the many cenotes, Mayan ruins and caves - can all be enjoyed and are less busy than during peak season.

All you need to know about a break in Mexico.

7. Marrakech, Morocco

Morocco offers plenty of winter sun options and the coast is a popular option. However, wind and rain do start to hit the coast in November, which makes Marrakech a safer option. Temperatures in summer in Marrakech make it almost unbearable and in November the weather is much more comfortable with an average of 20°C. The city is truly a delight for all the senses. The sights and sounds of the street markets are a must, but don't miss out on the Ben Youssef Madrasa, make sure to explore the medina and check out the Koutoubia Mosque. Do as the locals do and enjoy your morning coffee outside and simply take it all in.

8. Rekjavik, Iceland

Something a little different to round of our list of November destinations is Rekjavik in Iceland. True, it doesn't offer the sun of most other destinations on our list and it's even probably colder than back home in the UK! Things also change quickly throughout the month, with the number of daylight hours reducing dramatically by the end of the month.

Rekjavik itself is a fantastic city to explore. Visit the sights, like the Hallgrímskirkja or the National Museum of Iceland to get out of the cold. Winter is also the time to visit Iceland so include trips into the wild in your break here. Ice cave season starts in November while it's also a great time to try to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
