Ahh, April. With the UK weather usually unable to make up its mind - unless it decides to constantly rain - could there ever be a better time to just go and get away from it all with a well-earned break?

The best warm-weather destinations for April
Some like it hot! It might be April showers at home but there are plenty of warm-weather destinations in April - if you know where to look, that is! As an added bonus, you may not even have to travel too far to get to that warm weather you've been dreaming of.
For warm temperatures in Europe, head to Italy, Greece, Portugal or Spain. The sea may not yet be warm enough for swimming, but the weather is perfect for a city break in Barcelona or a weekend trip to Rome.
If it's sun, sea and beaches you want, you'll need to venture a little further away. Head to Asia, where destinations like Thailand sometimes have their hottest month in April. Alternatively, why not catch a flight to South America for an adventure in Mexico or an eco-friendly trip to Costa Rica?
Here are some of our favourite warm-weather destinations for April.
1. Morocco

While the scorching summer temperatures may feel like a bit too much in Morocco, April is the perfect time to visit due to its much more comfortable warm temperatures.
2. Canary Islands

Not too far from the Sahara Desert, you can find pleasant and warm temperatures on all seven of the beautiful Canary Islands - but without the crowds! It's the best time to visit summer hotspots like Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
3. Egypt

April is a wonderful time to visit Egypt and its wealth of historical treasures. April temperatures can reach 28°C and beyond in Cairo and, with little to no cloud cover, the days feel long and sunny.

We've saved the hottest until last! Mexico is a great choice for a spring break. Although many locations are lovely at this time of year, head to the beaches of Cancun where April temperatures can reach up to 32°C.
Which holiday destinations are cheap in April?
If price is more important to you than warm temperatures, then there are loads of affordable options for April. A weekend break in a European city could be just the ticket, as you'll be beating the crowds and both flights and accommodation should be cheaper. Since this is also the start of spring, many of these destinations will be looking their best in April. If you get lucky enough to avoid rain, then you could be treated to some fantastic weather too!
But April is also a great time to head to some peak-summer-season favourites. Prices will generally be lower but could be more expensive over Easter weekend. While it won't be as warm, you could do much more exploring and activities than in the heat of summer.
Here are some great budget-friendly destinations for April.
1. Dubai
Flights from Europe to Dubai are pretty cheap and this city is great for an alternative long city break destination. There's great nightlife, everything is modern and public transport works like a dream. Go shopping in style at the Dubai Mall and eat at fantastic restaurants. Dubai has a luxury feel despite being an affordable break. Summers are too hot for most so April is an ideal time for a visit before the heat kicks in. You can even hit the beach and swim in the ocean! Temperatures are between 22⁰C and 34⁰C while water temperature is a comfortable 25⁰C.
2. Algarve
The Algarve offers so much more than just sun and beaches. April is an ideal time to visit with fewer crowds and temperatures that average about 16°C, although it can reach the mid-20s during the day. The days are long and there's usually little rain. Walk the coastal paths, take a horse ride along the beach, check out the museums like the National Maritime Museum in Faro and feast on delicious seafood. There's endless things to do for the whole family and prices for flights and accommodation are much lower than peak season.
3. Madrid
Those fancying a springtime weekend break in a European city should definitely consider Madrid. The Spanish capital is a popular destination all year round. In April, the days are usually sunny, there's little rain and the average temperature is 19°C - perfect for discovering the city's famous sights! Check out the stunning Royal Palace, visit the huge parks like the Casa de Campo and taste the local delicacies. The city is usually buzzing, especially in trendy neighbourhoods like Embajadores, which has loads of bars and lively nightlife.
4. Sicily
Sicily is perhaps Italy's most beautiful island. Many come here in summer to enjoy the crystal-clear water, charming villages and hidden beaches. But savvy travellers come outside of summer to explore the diverse nature of the island. The Zingaro Nature Trail is a 7km stretch along the coast that takes in some of Sicily's local wildlife. The flight takes three hours from the UK and the average temperature is 18°C. Rent a car and explore the coast, taking in incredible places like Marsala and visit Mount Etna on the eastern side of the island.
5. Majorca
One of summer's most popular destinations is also a great choice for spring! Majorca in April means very little rain and the average temperature is about 18°C. Head to Palma and enjoy the Easter festival that takes place there. The island is also a dream for cyclists and hiking enthusiasts. 6. Madeira
If an April island trip sounds like the perfect fit, why not head out to Madeira? This Portuguese island enjoys an average temperature of 18°C in April, along with long sunny days and very little rainfall. Try out the Funchal Cable Car for lovely views, visit a fairytale forest at Parque Forestal de Queimadas or hop on a whale and dolphin watching boat cruise. With a flight time of just under four hours, you'll be on the island in no time and get to explore without the big crowds that flock here in the summer.
Bucket-list destinations for April
April showers bring May flowers, but this month isn’t all about drizzly days. It’s the start of spring, after all, and whether you are embracing the rain at the mirrored salt flats of Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia or escaping to drier areas like the plains of Zambia, April is an excellent time to travel. It’s also the start of cherry blossom season in destinations across the world - most famously in Japan, but also in Canada and the US. While you can keep it close to home with one of our domestic destinations, why not tick off an experience on the bucket list this April and explore further afield?
1. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, is an impressive sight at any time of year. Thousands of miles of super-flat salt crust expand in every direction to the surrounding mountains, which gives one the feeling of looking across an unusually still lake.
April is the best time to go if you’re looking to catch the neat visual trick caused by rainfall - as the flats are covered in water, they turn into a mirror, giving the impression that you are walking on water. Once you've visited here, head south to the Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon), a Martian-looking salt lake of pinkish-reds and pure whites where groups of flamingos roam freely.
2. Melbourne, Australia
With its warm-but-not-hot weather and its mix of laid-back beach vibes and hipster credentials, Melbourne is the ideal place for an April holiday. Take a dip at the St Kilda Sea Baths, check out the graffiti on Hosier Lane or walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens. Those who want a break from the city can book a day tour to the Yarra Valley vineyards to sample a variety of wines from this cooler climate.
Coffee lovers take note: if you’re looking for the best place to grab your morning cappuccino, you’ll have your work cut out for you - Melbourne has been at the forefront of the third-wave coffee movement, focusing on high-quality beans and exquisite presentation.
3. Washington, DC
You don’t have to fly all the way to Japan to see beautiful cherry blossoms in bloom. The US capital comes to life between March and April every year, when the National Cherry Blossom Festival is underway; the delicate pale pink flowers start coming in and the streets are blanketed in petals like a springtime snow.
The flowers aren’t the only reason to come to Washington, DC this time of year - April is peak travel for a reason. The days are cool and sunny, making it easy to hit hotspots like the National Mall and the Lincoln Memorial or spend a few hours walking down the iconic U Street. The best part? If you catch some April showers, there is a wealth of top-tier museums to choose from.
4. Zambia, Africa
If you’ve always dreamed of experiencing the flora and fauna of Africa up close, head to Zambia this April. Falling between the rainy season, when safari camps are generally closed, and the summer season, when prices are high and there is an influx of tourists, April has great travel deals, perfect weather and allows you to see Zambia in full bloom.
We'd recommend heading to South Luangwa National Park, where knowledgeable guides can teach you about the 450 bird and animal species that populate the area. While in Zambia, be sure to make a stop at the breathtaking Victoria Falls, the largest waterfall in the world.
